Indoor Sports Centre Open Day
We're holding a free public open day at the newly completed Indoor Community Sports Centre in Kilbirnie on Saturday 27 August to give Wellingtonians a preview of what's on offer.
The open day, from 10.00am - 3.00pm, will feature netball, volleyball and basketball matches, athletics, and displays of less well-known sports such as korfball, futsal (indoor football), handball, floorball and ultimate frisbee. There will also be a celebrity basketball game featuring Brendan Pongia and Waimarama Taumanu, marching bands, face painting and a play area for kids.
A free shuttle bus will run between Wellington Railway Station and the sports centre - stopping at all bus stops along the number 2 route via Courtenay Place, the bus tunnel and Hataitai. The shuttle will start at 9.30am and run every half hour until 2.00pm. The last bus will leave from the station at 2.00pm and from the sports centre at 3.30pm.
We hope as many people as possible will use the bus as parking will be limited. If you are driving, a park-and-ride service will operate from the Evans Bay Marina car park.
The 12-court Indoor Community Sports Centre will provide a high-quality training and playing facility for netball, basketball, volleyball and many other sports. It will be a focal point for community recreation and used by primary and secondary schools.
