MARLBOROUGH

Many of the plant species that are invading and damaging our natural areas are ornamental plants that have ‘jumped the fence’ from gardens and gone wild. The Council, and community volunteers, put time and money into controlling these weeds. You can help by avoiding the plants which are a particular problem in Marlborough.

Instead, try planting

  • Kutakuta (eleocharis sphacelata)
  • Hemerocallis ‘amber glow’
  • Blue iris (iris versicolor)
  • Weedbusters West Coast/Nelson/Marlborough booklet “Plant Me Instead” available from the Council counter.
