It’s important to maintain companionship and social contact, particularly for older people living alone. Membership of clubs or organisations is one way of maintaining an interest and a sense of belonging.

The Marlborough District Library maintains a database of information about the clubs and groups that exist in Marlborough. Information can be found on the library website. If you don’t use the internet, either telephone or call at the information counter at the library.

The database has meeting times and contact details for a wide range of clubs encompassing all kinds of interests including:

  • Marlborough Bridge Club - opportunity to play social or competitive contract bridge five days a week, afternoons and evenings, Ph: Carolyn Wood, 578 4856.
  • Marlborough Angling and Surfcasting Club - fosters all kinds of fishing, and organises boat trips to the Sounds, Ph: Shirley Chesmar, 577 7592.
  • Blenheim Sequence Dance Club - weekly dancing opportunity including lessons, Ph: Liz Cromarty 572 9809.
  • Tua Marina Vintage Traction and Machinery Club - meets monthly to restore all kinds of vintage machinery, Ph: Peter Tester 578 3450.
  • Picton Quilters Inc - meets monthly, promoting quilting skills and techniques and making quilts for community purposes, Ph: Margaret Marshall 573 7133.
  • Marlborough Floral Art Group - meets monthly to promote floral art including providing floral arrangements for community hospice and meals on wheels, Ph: Helen Jackson 573 6962.

Pastimes Indoor Bowls - weekly social bowls at Redwoodtown Community Centre, Ph: Des Rawlinson 578 7875.
