District Dining Comes Home For A Taste Of New Zealand
Warren Turnbull, the Kiwi born flavour of Australia through his flagship restaurants Assiette and now District Dining, is setting sail across the Tasman to be part of New Zealand’s most extensive food and wine celebration ever: Taste of New Zealand.
Wednesday October the 19th will see Auckland’s Victoria Park come alive with Taste of New Zealand, a collection of New Zealand’s best chefs, produce, music and now the already impressive line up just got one better!
Award winning Chef Warren Turnbull, the man behind reputable Sydney based restaurant District Dining has announced he’s bringing his own flavour to the culinary festival. As a bonus, Warren’s good mates Josh Emmet (MasterChef Judge) and Justin North (acclaimed Kiwi-born Sydney Chef) will be helping out in the District Dining Kitchen at the festival too.
Since the inception of now two-hatted District Dining, Warren has been steadily establishing his unique cooking style in Australia, picking up a swathe of glowing reviews from foodies and public alike along the way. Warren is very excited to announce the opening of a new District Dining at Auckland’s Britomart in September!
“Having been involved in the Taste Festivals in Australia for the last three years I’m really looking forward to working alongside some of New Zealand’s greatest talents in my home town” says Warren, “I think Taste of New Zealand is going to be one of the most exciting places to be during one of the busiest times Auckland will see for many years to come.
Warren joins an all-star cast at Taste of New Zealand, including New Zealand’s first lady of free range, Annabel Langbein who is releasing her new book at the event. Christchurch top chef and recipient of a recent Restaurant Personality of the Year Award Jonny Schwass will be in attendance, as well as Metro’s Restaurant of the Year Award Winner – The Grove’s Ben Bayly and Michael Dearth.
Makoto Tukoyama; the man behind the fabulous new and award winning restaurant Cocoro, Nick Honeyman from Cru at Sale St (formerly Dallows) will also be at Taste, Alisdair Gribben from newly launched Marvel Grill and the team from Monsoon Poon have some great surprises for a formidable line up.
Each chef brings their top three dishes to Taste of New Zealand for the crowds to pick and choose, and this year sees Warren add his sumptuous signature dish of oysters with Vietnamese dressing, crispy shallots & coriander.
The Taste of New Zealand Awards or TONZA - an initiative recognising restaurants that are champions of local produce from around the country is a part of this year’s Taste festival. The TONZA Kitchen lineup includes top Christchurch chef Jonny Schwass, also dishes from True South (Queenstown), Te Whau (Waiheke) and more exciting venues to be announced.
Says Warren “I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the lead up to the final than indulging in the best the NZ Culinary world has to offer, right in the heart of the city.”
