Australian High Commissioner welcomed to Rotorua

The Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand His Excellency Mr Paul O'Sullivan AO was welcomed to Rotorua this week by Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters.

Mr Winters greeted Australia's top diplomat at the Rotorua District Council Civic Centre on Tuesday before presenting him with a replica Maori waka.

Prior to taking up his current posting in Wellington, Mr O'Sullivan was Director-General of the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and served as the Senior Advisor (International) in the office of former prime minister John Howard. He has also held diplomatic posts for the Australian Government in Berlin, Bonn, Washington, Geneva, Rome and Cairo.

His Excellency was accompanied on his visit to Rotorua this week by his wife Mrs Merrilyn O'Sullivan.
