The transformation of the Heretaunga Street 300 block (between King and Nelson Streets) has been completed in time for the Rugby World Cup.

The road surface has been reshaped and sealed, while new footpaths have been laid and Hastings CBD signature street lights, seating, funky bike racks and rubbish bins have been installed.

Hastings District Councillor Sandra Hazelhurst says” the upgrade focused on creating a positive shopping experience for people coming into the CBD, while the street has become safer for all users.”

Sandra Hazelhurst says “features of the new layout are the extended dining areas at John’s Bakery and Madeleines Espresso, which are ringed with artistic barriers creating another unique, alfresco dining experience.”

Hastings City Business Association General Manager Jane Janes says” the work has been finished on schedule and the feedback from retailers is great. They are full of praise for the way the contractor (Infracon) tackled the project and the quality of the work which has made such a huge improvement to the appeal of the street.”

Jane Janes says “the finished street looks fantastic and will be a real draw card as we welcome visitors to Hastings for the Rugby World Cup. Retailers are also very confident the street will attract plenty of happy shoppers as we approach Christmas.”

“There is plenty of parking available and shoppers will find the new street has a very convenient vehicle and pedestrian friendly layout. The retailers in the 300 block are excited about the way the street looks and look forward to everyone enjoying the experience of shopping in the new surroundings.”
