The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team is focused on defending its lead in round two of the Benchmark Homes Tour in Timaru on Sunday.

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Sam Horgan won the opening race in Nelson ahead of team mate Ian Smallman and with SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team riders also filling fifth, sixth and seventh positions, the team comfortably won the teams classification.

“The first round’s results in Nelson were outstanding and the team rode very well together,” SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team General Manager Hayden Godfrey said.

“The team will be looking to defend the series lead with Sam and also its lead in the teams competition.”

Godfrey said he expected the calibre of the field to be stronger for round two as riders return from racing overseas.

Christchurch based Horgan has been in good recent form, winning the Fonterra Street Criterium in Feilding and the 90 kilometre Trek Joe Allen Classic handicap cap race in Palmerston North in late August.

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Tom Hubbard, who is well positioned in the Benchmark Homes Tour Under 23 competition, performed well in the recent Reiker two Day Tour, finishing third overall with a stage win.

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team for this Sunday’s round of the Benchmark Homes Tour is Horgan, Hubbard, Jason Allen, Nick Lovegrove, Paul Odlin and Ian Smallman.
