MANAWATU-WHANGANUI

Here are our guidelines for electioneering signs that apply to the Manawatu District Council area.

  • Signs for electioneering purposes are a temporary activity under our District Plan.
  • Signs shall not be located on roads (this is from boundary to boundary) or on Council properties.
  • Consent from property owners need to be obtained for signs on private land.
  • No sign shall be larger than 3m2.
  • No sign shall detrimentally affect traffic safety or traffic control by creating a visual obstruction or confusing motorists.
  • Signs shall not be structurally unsound or unsafe.
  • Illuminated signs shall be non-flashing.
  • Manawatu District Council does not have sign parks.
  • Signs shall only be permitted in the two-month period prior to the election.
  • Signs on State Highways – Please contact NZTA on 06 953 6200 .

 

Anything that does not comply with the guidelines above, may require resource consent.

Please Note: It is an offence under the Electoral Act to display election signs on election day.
