As part of the iWay walking and cycling project, Hastings District Council has developed a new tool which allows the community to report issues which arise on the roading and footpath network around the district.

The iWay website now contains a link to a map of the district, where it’s possible for residents to mark and report any minor problems they spot on roads or footpaths.

These can range from a pothole in the road to glass which has been carelessly discarded in a cycle lane.

iWay project team leader Owen Mata says the new system is really easy to use.” Once you have identified a problem, you simply go to our website which shows you a map of the city.”

“Then it’s just a matter of typing in the location of the problem and identifying whether the problem is broken glass or the condition of the road or footpath. Your report will then be sent to the roading team who will look into the problem.”

Hastings Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says” it’s important that we keep our footpaths, roads and cycle lanes in top shape for our residents. This new, easy to use system means problems can be identified quickly and we can have them rectified as soon as possible. We need to be sure that residents who are walking or cycling around the city can do so in the safest way possible.”

“The new cycle lanes have increased safety for cyclists and now we must ensure they stay clear of glass” Mrs Bowers says.

“Council’s iWay project aims to make walking and cycling easy, safe and fun and this reporting system is just another way of achieving those aims” Mr Mata says.
