Hamilton prepares for Rugby World Cup weekend
Fans heading to Waikato Stadium this weekend for Hamilton’s first two Rugby
World Cup 2011 matches are being urged to bring cash, identification and use
the walking route to the venue.
Hamilton hosts the first two of its three Rugby World Cup matches this Friday
(New Zealand vs Japan, 8pm kick-off) and Sunday (Wales vs Samoa, 3.30pm
kick-off), part of the city’s Back to Back Weekend of events.
Rugby World Cup 2011 Ambassador Councillor Peter Bos said there a number
of things fans could do to ensure they had a fun and hassle-free experience at
the matches.
- Get to the stadium early - gates open two hours before kick-off.
- Urge young foreign visitors to bring identification if they want to
purchase alcohol.
- Bring cash for food, beverage and merchandise purchases.
- Make use of the BUSIT! Rugby Shuttle and other bus services.
- Use the walking route from the city’s FanZone (Hood St/Alexandra St) to
Waikato Stadium to avoid traffic congestion.
- Be aware of road closures around the stadium before and after the
matches.
Cr Bos also urged people to enjoy the Rugby party, but behave responsibly.
“Rugby World Cup 2011 is a family affair, and Hamilton will also be on-show to
the world – so we need to put our best foot forward and demonstrate we’re a
city that does events well,” Cr Bos said.
