Drink and fry? "Like hell" says the Fire Service

The Fire Service have joined forces with Hell Pizza to promote the importance of people having something to eat before they come home after a big night out. Alcohol is involved in 50% of all fatal house fires and most of those involve guys coming home from the pub, putting the fry pan on and falling asleep.

As a way of spreading the word about the perils of drinking and frying, Hell Pizza have agreed to completely redesign their double pizza boxes to illustrate the message. Not a step taken lightly according to co-founder, Stu McMullin.

“For 15 years our packaging hasn’t changed and because of that it’s instantly identifiable as our brand so we got a bit twitchy initially about making such a fundamental design change that could potentially compromise that,” said Stu. “But we believed in the importance of the message and wanted to work with the Fire Service by telling this story to our customers.

And as one of the largest fast food companies in New Zealand, we have a lot of customers!
Plus the boxes look fantastic.”

And the Fire Service have just launched a tv campaign that captures real New Zealanders who have had a big night out but still retained enough ‘smarts’ to get something to eat before they head home.

“They haven’t necessarily been engaged in sensible drinking,” said Mike Hall, National Commander of the Fire Service, “but they are certainly involved in sensible eating and that makes them fire-wise in my book.”

Mr Hall is delighted that Hell Pizza are supporting the Fire Service’s messages on over a million pizza
boxes and on 100,000 scratch and win tickets that will be distributed in hospitality areas at night
over the next two months. “This is a fantastic way to reach a huge number of Kiwi’s with a life
saving message and that has to be a winner,” he said
