Steady showers in the morning did not deter a record number of people from attending the annual Petone Carnival last Saturday.

An estimated 50,000 people packed in along the Petone Foreshore for the event, which is described as being the biggest Carnival to date.

Highlights from the Carnival included the Contact Energy LEGEND Parade, a bustling marketplace and the Rotary Club of Hutt City Fire Sculptures.

The fire sculptures were constructed by artists throughout the day, and were later burned in an impressive evening display along the beach area of the foreshore much to the delight of the crowds.

Attendees were entertained throughout the day by local artists, who performed from three stages around the Carnival. The inclusion of three stages was a first and it offered many young artists the chance to showcase their musical talents.

The Petone Carnival concluded with the Pelorus Trust Fireshow, which featured some of the largest firework blasts seen in the Wellington region.

Photos from the Petone Carnival will soon be available to view at www.petonecarnival.co.nz.

Carnival attendees are encouraged to share their photos on the official Petone Carnival Facebook page www.facebook.com/petonecarnival
