Queenstown's X-it Youth Centre is to be rebranded “The Youth Booth," after consultation with local youth following a merger of the town’s two youth trusts.

X-it Youth Workers, of Queenstown Life Trust and Summit Youth Workers, of Wakatipu District Youth Trust, merged on April 1 this year.

The four youth workers employed by the new Wakatipu Youth Trust - Nathan Baxter, Jacqui Moir, Laura Cross and Fiona Sawers - have since surveyed local youth to help direct future programmes and events as well as rebranding the X-it Youth Centre.

Ms Sawers said the initial list of potential names was whittled down to 10, which local students from years 7 to 13 then voted on. The Youth booth was the unanimous choice.

“With a new name, we need a new look. We have teamed up with Fluid Visual Communications, who will be working with some of the freshest, sharpest minds in the area – local design students from Wakatipu High School – to put together a new logo for the centre and staff."

Wakatipu Youth Trust saw this as a fantastic opportunity to both give design students the opportunity to learn with professionals on a real life project and ensure that the result reflected the ideas and passions of the youth the trust work with.

Wakatipu Youth Trust staff are meanwhile continuing with many other projects, including cheffing, skate, boxing and climbing programmes plus the Battle of the Musos, DARE, open house at the Youth Booth each weekday 3- 5.30, and a host of lunchtime activities at both primary and high schools.
