AUCKLAND

Frustrated by his performance in Australia's surprise 15-6 defeat by Ireland, Pat McCabe has a point to prove and has targeted the next match against USA for redemption.

"I'm not happy with how I played on Saturday night so I'd love to get out there and put in a good performance," the Australian inside centre said.

"I want another chance to fix some of the things that went wrong."

While acknowledging that his team were outplayed in many areas, McCabe says he holds himself to higher standards than those he displayed at Eden Park.

The 23-year-old was particularly unhappy with his ball running, specifically two occasions when he turned over possession after being held up in the tackle by the Irish defence.

"The first time I carried the ball in too high and the second time I was just trying to stay for too long on my feet instead of hitting the deck," he said.

Costly errors

"That was two pretty costly errors early on in the game that really hurt our momentum."

The Wallabies play USA at Wellington Regional Stadium on Friday, a day that cannot come soon enough for McCabe.

"I'm glad we've got the short turnaround because it means we're only a few days from getting the opportunity to right our wrongs," he said.

While coach Robbie Deans might be tempted to rest a number of key players for the clash, McCabe would prefer to play every match of Australia's World Cup campaign.

"I'll be putting my hand up for sure," he said. "Every game you play is another opportunity to show what you're capable of."
