Fonterra Brands (New Zealand) Ltd (FBNZ) is extending the products covered by a voluntary recall of some Mainland cheese products.

Dominic Quin, FBNZ General Manager Marketing and Innovation, said:

“On Tuesday, as a precautionary measure, we announced the voluntary recall of three products following the detection of a metal fragment found in a single pack.

“On further investigation, we have found that a small amount of the relevant cheese was further blended and processed into flavoured individually wrapped slices. As a result there is a very small possibility that these products could also be affected.

“There can be no compromise on product quality and the health and safety of our consumers. We believe that the risk is minimal, as with our initial recall on Tuesday,” Mr Quin said.

There has still only been one report of a metal fragment in the cheese.

“Again, we advise anyone with family or friends who may have bought these products to contact them in case they do not see or hear this announcement,” Mr Quin said.

Consumers should not consume the products but should return them to the point of purchase (with the appropriate packaging (batch number included)) for a full refund.

Food recall notices have been placed in daily newspapers across New Zealand this week and authorities have been notified.
