Capital - Queenstown Jetstar Flights Welcomed

Wellington City Council has welcomed the introduction of a daily Jetstar flight from the capital to Queenstown from December.

Councillor Jo Coughlan, the Council's Economy Portfolio Leader, says the new service recognises the fact there is a strong demand for more direct flights and more competition on this important tourist route - both from Wellingtonians and visitors from overseas.

"More direct flights to Queenstown allow tourists to spend more time in Wellington and then make a short flight south."

Cr Coughlan says the announcement of additional direct flights to Queenstown, plus three additional flights to Auckland, will see an additional 3,500 seats from Wellington each week - which will enhance the capital's reputation as a more connected city and an easy place through which to link to other destinations.
