Visionary meeting held
ABOUT 25 Hall and Community Committee representatives attended a visionary meeting at Manawatu District Council last week.
Community Services Group Manager, Brent Limmer, said the aim of the meeting was to update the group on progress towards the district’s new Draft Vision Statement, which will help shape the future of Manawatu.
The draft statement is now being shared with the community to enable people to informally give council their views, with a formal consultation process to take place in April next year.
Six supporting outcome statements have also been developed to guide council activity. The outcomes are a requirement of the Long Term Plan, the legislated process by which council sets its strategy – and draft budgets – for the next 10 years.
Council’s draft vision is Connected, Vibrant and Thriving Manawatu – the Best Rural Lifestyle in New Zealand.
Council officers, including Chief Executive, Lorraine Vincent, attended the session to present to the halls and community committee representatives, as well as several councillors and District Mayor, Ian McKelvie.
The group also heard an update on the community committee project fund and community halls condition ratings, which have been completed for the long-term planning work now underway at council.
