'Wild at Heart' Airport is Best in Australasia
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown today congratulated Wellington International Airport for being named Australasia's Leading Airport.
The Airport was honoured at the World Travel Awards ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand on 28 September 2011. The Awards recognise, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry and is voted on by travel agents.
"To be named Australasia's Leading Airport recognises the level of talent and professionalism at Wellington Airport," said Mayor Wade-Brown. "It's a great team that provides superb service across all sectors of airport operation.
"What's important about this award is that Wellington International Airport is often the first experience for visitors entering Wellington. First impressions count, and have positive flow-on benefits for the whole Capital."
Mayor Wade-Brown said "Wellington Airport's benefits for the Capital would be boosted further by direct flights to Asia."
Wellington Airport has been nominated for the title each year since 2007 and has unseated Sydney as Australasia's Leading Airport. Sydney has won the award in seven of the previous eight years, losing to Auckland in 2009.
