Waikato Regional Council team monitoring ship grounding
A Waikato Regional Council staff member is travelling to the Bay of Plenty to help with the Maritime New Zealand response to a ship grounding 22 kilometres off Mount Maunganui.
Also, the council’s marine oil spill team is monitoring the situation and will be on standby in case the grounding results in any threats to the Waikato region’s eastern coastline or if other assistance is requested in the Bay of Plenty.
The council says it has had no reports of oil spilling.
