Schoolchildren Share Their Playground Ideas
Students at Highlands Intermediate School will talk with New Plymouth District Council tomorrow (Thursday) about what would make a great playground.
The students are part of a design project that is feeding ideas into a future revamp of Pukekura Park’s children’s playground.
Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says the design will be considered in the Draft Long-Term Plan, with the intention for the redevelopment to take place in 2012/13 as part of a district-wide programme of playground improvements.
“This is one of the district’s premier playgrounds and if the work goes ahead, we’d like some of our young residents to be involved in its redesign,” says Manager Parks Mark Bruhn.
“Who better to tell us what makes a great playground than the very people who will use it?”
Council staff will meet with the students at 11am tomorrow at the school. Ideas have also been sought from St Pius X School students.
