A spectacular outdoor opening concert is set to rock the opening of the 2007 ASB Jazzfest, Jazzfest Trust musical director Harvey Maguire said.

Headline act Yuval Ron and the Residents of the Future were nothing short of ‘dynamic’, he said.

“They play an enticing blend of jazz-rock with an unmistakable North American rhythm. I think Queenstown will be wowed by these guys,” Mr Maguire said.

The free concert at Earnslaw Park would kick-off at 3pm on Sunday with Queenstown favourites, the Master Blasters and an interlude from last year’s young jazz musician of the year Beth Hamilton.

“Beth has an incredible voice and an incredible future, if you didn’t hear her last year this is a chance not to be missed,” Mr Maguire said.

The ‘family friendly’ event would feature master of ceremonies, crowd favourite Shaun Vining and the ASB would be on hand with free giveaways for the kids.

“Lower Beach Street will be closed and people will be able to enjoy food and wine from a selection of stalls. It doesn’t get better than that,” Mr Maguire said.

The event was unlikely to be affected by light showers forecast for early on Sunday.

“No problem we will have plenty of dry area for people to bring picnic rugs and settle into three hours of first class entertainment. I’ve ordered the sun for three hours,” Mr Maguire said.
