Nominations open for Council Civic Awards
Nominations for the 2011 Civic Awards, among the city’s highest awards, have now opened.
The annual awards recognise the contribution of tireless and proactive individuals to Hamilton and its community, and culminate with a special ceremony in the Council Chamber on 9 December, when a maximum of 20 awards will be bestowed on Hamiltonians.
Nominations are sought for individuals whose efforts in six areas – sport, business/enterprise, arts and culture, environment, people and well-being, and education – have not previously been recognised.
Among last year’s winners were long-serving Rotary Club member David Campbell, Friends of Hamilton Zoo volunteer David Croucher, and Hamilton Roller Skating Club President Kathy Moody.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says: "The Civic Awards recognise the contribution Hamiltonians make to our city, whether that be to community endeavours, business or philanthropy. It is our city's way of honouring those people and their hard work. I'd encourage people to nominate people who deserve the city's thanks."
Mayor Hardaker is part of the Civic Awards selection panel, alongside Deputy Mayor Gordon Chesterman, Councillor Pippa Mahood and Councillor Martin Gallagher.
Nominations for the awards close on 24 October, and nomination forms can be obtained at Hamilton Public Libraries, from the ground floor reception at Hamilton City Council’s main building, or http://hamilton.co.nz/page/pageid/2145840953/Hamilton_Civic_Awards
