Finishing third in round three of the Benchmark Homes Elite Tour earned SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Sam Horgan the tour leaders jersey in North Canterbury on Saturday.

Shane Archbold (Reiker Cycles) won the 141 kilometre race beating Horgan and second placed Dylan Kennett (Team Orbea) in a sprint finish.

Horgan, who won the opening Benchmark Homes Tour event in Nelson, and his SUBWAY® Pro Cycling teammate Jason Allan were in a break of 11 riders that included Archbold and under 23 national road champion Michael Vink (Thule).

The front group battled cold, wet conditions in the Canterbury foothills to gain a lead margin of five minutes while the remaining SUBWAY® Pro Cycling riders of Dillon Bennett, Ian Smallman, Tom Hubbard and Paul Odlin policed the main bunch.

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team held onto its lead in the team’s classification.

The final round of the 2011 Benchmark Homes Cycling Tour will be raced in Oxford on 19th November.

Results: Shane Archbold (Reiker Cycles), 3:15.22, 1; Dylan Kennet (Team Orbea), same time, 2; Sam Horgan (Subway Pro Cycling), same time, 3.
