Demonstration timetable

Rick Stein will demonstrate his passion for Malaysian cooking especially for visitors to Taste of New Zealand next week.

The renowned UK celebrity chef and author has cooked up three special recipes designed for the Malaysia Kitchen Programme in NZ.

Stein will be alternating with MasterChef Nadia Lim in presenting the three Malaysian dishes at demonstrations across the event.

All three of Stein’s dishes – prepared by tops chefs from local Malaysian restaurants - will be available for purchase throughout the event.

The specially-prepared dishes are:

  • Grilled snapper stuffed with a shrimp and lemongrass curry paste
  • Nasi goreng with grilled lime chicken
  • Kuala Lumpur prawn and chicken curry laksa

Stein’s demonstration schedule is (all in the Malaysia Kitchen tent):

  • Friday 21 October, two sessions, 2pm to 2.45pm and 7.30pm to 8.15pm.
  • Saturday 22 October, two sessions, 2pm to 2.45pm; 7.30pm to 8.15pm.

Nadia Lim’s demonstration schedule is (in the Malaysia Kitchen tent):

  • Wednesday 19 October, one session, 7.30pm to 8.15pm
  • Thursday 20 October, two sessions, 2pm to 2.45pm and 7.30pm to 8.15pm
  • Saturday 22 October, one session, Main Chefs Fisher & Paykel Kitchen, 7.30pm to 8.15pm.

Kiwis also have an opportunity to dine with Rick Stein at Cibo Restaurant in Parnell on Thursday 20 October. Tickets are available through ticketek.co.nz.

Malaysian cuisine is a fascinating blend of Malay, Chinese, and Indian food traditions, with Thai, Portuguese, Javanese and Middle Eastern influences – the original fusion food. Many cultures have influenced the country’s cuisine due to its position at a key transit point in the ancient spice route.

Malaysian cuisine is already a big part of the New Zealand food and drink culture with more than 50 Malaysian restaurants operating around the country. The Programme supports local Malaysian restaurants and chefs and encourages Kiwis to try Malaysian cuisine at home and in restaurants.

Taste of New Zealand runs from 19 to 22 October. Further information is available at www.tasteofnewzealand.co.nz and to purchase tickets go to www.ticketek.co.nz.
