Wellington Phoenix captain Ross Aloisi has been cleared to play in Sunday’s Hyundai A-League 2007/08 round eight match against the Newcastle Jets.

A Football Federation Australia tribunal last night found Aloisi guilty on a charge of serious foul play arising from an incident in last weekend’s round seven fixture between the Phoenix and the Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Aloisi received a one-match suspension, which the FFA suspended on condition that it would be activated should the Phoenix skipper receive a caution or red card in the next match that he participates in.

Wellington Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said the verdict was a fair one.

“We’re pleased with the decision. We pleaded guilty and accepted there had been some contact, but we’re delighted that Ross will be able to play against Newcastle this weekend.”
