CANTERBURY

On Tuesday October 25, the temporary Christchurch bus exchanges on Hagley and Bealey Avenues will be replaced with the new Central Station, located at 46-50 Lichfield St, behind Ballantynes.

A new Metro network map will be delivered to all Christchurch households mid next week which includes a new map of the Central Station. Or people can look up http://www.metroinfo.co.nz/preview/

At the same time as Central Station opens, Environment Canterbury is also introducing three new routes, reintroducing later services at night and higher frequency trips on many routes. Services that have been split into two halves since the February earthquake will be connected together again.

The three new routes are:

  • The Comet – this service travels from Hornby to Papanui via Avonhead Mall, Orchard Rd (Airport), the Sheffield Crescent business area and Bishopdale Mall.
  • #40 Middleton to Wainoni – this is an extension to the current Wainoni route, connecting the Tower Junction and Middleton areas to Church Corner and Central Station.
  • #535 Lyttelton Eastgate Link – this reconnects Lyttelton, Heathcote and Ferrymead to Eastgate.

Metro planners are continuing to work on ways to better meet the needs of people who may be without their old bus service for some time. This includes the Avondale/ Dallington area, where road works and bridge weight limits are in place.

The map of Central Station, the Greater Christchurch network maps and timetables can be found on this web page: http://www.metroinfo.co.nz/preview/
