Active School Zone signs are to be installed near two Napier primary schools to reduce vehicle speeds and help safeguard children as they cross busy roads.

Napier has 35 schools, some of which are located on major arterial roads. Roads outside schools can be dangerous places for children because of high volumes of traffic, manoeuvring vehicles, parked vehicles obscuring visibility and traffic speeds that may appear too high.

The active school signs will be erected on Gloucester Street near Greenmeadows Primary School and on Guppy Road near Reignier Catholic School. They will be prominently displayed and each sign will include two flashing amber lights, alerting motorists to slow down in the School Zone.

Napier City Council is also investigating the implications of rolling out active speed restriction signs on Taradale Road, Kennedy Road and Murphy Road near other schools.
