City has new mayor

Palmerston North has its fourth new mayor in as many elections.


With approximately 98 percent of the votes counted Cr Jono Naylor, a two term Councillor, is the city’s new mayor.


Cr Naylor (12,035 votes) has recorded more than 4,000 votes ahead of sitting mayor Heather Tanguay (7,798).


There’ll be eight new faces around the 15 person City Council table due to the retirement of six Councillors, the defeat of one sitting Councillor, Cr Ian Cruden and the elevation of Cr Naylor to the mayoralty.


The provisional result which includes votes returned today will be announced at midday tomorrow
