Fall In Online Job Vacancies In September
The number of skilled job vacancies advertised online dropped in September, according to the latest analysis by the Department of Labour.
The latest results from the Department’s Jobs Online index show that skilled job vacancies fell by 1.2% in September. Job vacancies overall also fell by the same amount.
Over the past year, the growth in online job vacancies has been positive, with skilled job vacancies up by 23.1%; and all job vacancies up by 24.9%.
“These results indicate a slowdown in hiring in the past month” says David Dundon-Smith, the Department’s Manager of Strategic Labour Market Research.
“However, employment prospects are promising in the IT industry, with the industry showing the strongest growth in September.”
Industries with the biggest growth nationally were IT, with vacancies up by 12.5%; and in education and training, with vacancies up by 10.6%.
The Wellington region had the strongest regional growth in skilled job vacancies, with demand for skilled workers up by 12.8% in the last month.
