Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution following severe weather conditions in Christchurch over the past day.

Roads closed in the city due to flooding are: Hunter Terrace, Eastern Terrace, Waimea Terrace, Oxford Terrace from Barbadoes Street to Fitzgerald Avenue and Maces Road (Ruru Road to Wickham Street).

Acting General Manager City Environment Alan Beuzenberg warns motorists of the need for caution on all city roads.

"Some roads have dipped following damage in the earthquakes and these dips are not always visible with the large amounts of surface water around," he says.

There is also considerable flooding on Banks Peninsula roads, with State Highway 75 closed between Birdlings Flat and Little River. Many Banks Peninsula roads are affected by slips and fallen debris.
