The city’s infrastructure coped well with the heavy rain yesterday, despite recent earthquake damage.

There were areas of localised surface water in the city due to earthquake damage to the land. This has now cleared.

The city is back to normal, with all roads open. There were no issues resulting from the high tide at 11pm last night.

Acting General Manager City Environment Alan Beuzenberg reminds motorists of the need for caution on all city roads.

"Some roads have dipped following damage in the earthquakes and these dips are not always visible with the large amounts of surface water around," he says.

Roads in Banks Peninsula are now all open, but motorists are advised to keep speeds down and exercise caution when driving as there are still areas of isolated surface water, slips and trees having fallen onto roads.

The wastewater system experienced very high flows due to the heavy rain yesterday. There was some overflow into rivers, but the system otherwise coped well in the conditions.

There are no indications of sand entering the wastewater system as yet, but the team will be regularly inspecting the system over the next few days.

If anyone is experiencing problems with their toilet facilities, please contact the Customer Call Centre, phone (03) 941 8999 or 0800 800 169 , which will assist Council to identify any potential problems early.
