Aucklanders are invited to pull up a chair and have a brief one-on-one chat with their Mayor on Tuesday 1 November.

To mark the first anniversary of Auckland Council, and one year of Mayor in the Chair events around the Auckland region, Len Brown will be setting up his chairs in Wynyard Quarter’s Karanga Plaza between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

“My Mayor in the Chair events are immensely important to me. I get to talk directly to Aucklanders about their local communities, their lives and their ideas for Auckland. We’ve talked about the Auckland Plan, trees, parking, pools, rubbish, sportsfields, heritage, rates, trains, trams and bicycles – you name it,” says Len Brown.

“These events are invaluable opportunities for me to hear the concerns of everyday Aucklanders – whether they be issues that are unique to a local community, or themes that stretch across the region.

“In the past year, I’ve held them from Warkworth to Pukekohe, Titirangi to Papakura, Browns Bay to Botany. I’ve been in libraries, malls, on main streets, and in town squares. I’ve met kids, seniors and everyone in between, from new Aucklanders who have just moved to New Zealand, to people who have lived in the same street their whole adult lives.”

In addition to fortnightly Mayor in the Chair events, Len Brown also holds monthly town hall meetings, and attends a Local Board meeting each month. Whilst Mayor in the Chair sessions are hour-long, lunchtime events which enable a quick, one-on-one chat, town hall meetings are 90-minute, agenda-free public meetings held in community halls and centres in the evenings.

The Mayor will be in Karanga Plaza, Wynyard Quarter from 12.30 – 1.30pm on Tuesday 1 November. If raining, he will be in the Karanga Kiosk.
