The Mayor will update Auckland Council’s substantive Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs) on his long-term vision for Auckland with the release of Letters of Expectation next week.

At today’s CCO Strategy Review Subcommittee, it was agreed that letters would be sent to the seven CCOs to inform them of council’s strategic direction.

The letters will help guide the CCOs’ direction in the coming years and, in turn, inform the development of their Statements of Intent (SOI) for 2012-2015, which set the objectives, nature and scope of activities undertaken and performance targets for each CCO.

“It’s vital Auckland acts as one as we focus on the challenges and opportunities ahead of us,” says Len Brown. “The correspondence due to be sent will allow the council to be crystal clear with the CCOs about what is expected of them.”

The letters bring together references in the draft Auckland Plan, the Mayor’s Long-term Plan priorities and the Local Board plans.

  • Auckland Council has six substantive CCOs:
  • Auckland Council Investments Limited
  • Auckland Council Property Limited
  • Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Limited
  • Auckland Transport
  • Auckland Waterfront Development Agency Limited
  • Regional Facilities Auckland.

Auckland Council also owns Watercare Services Limited (Watercare), a council organisation that will become a substantive CCO from 1 July 2012.

A CCO is an organisation in which the council controls 50 per cent or more of the votes, or has the right to appoint 50 per cent (or more) of directors or trustees.
