Expect a Cracker This Year
The 17th annual Pelorus Trust Sky Show fireworks display on Saturday 5 November is set to be a cracker.
Kicking off at 9.00pm, the 12-minute display will be set to the soundtrack of some of the biggest hits from rock and pop history.
Wellington City Council Community Events Manager Rebecca Hardie says this year's show falls on a Saturday, so the Council is encouraging people to make an evening of it and come into town earlier.
As usual there will be extensive traffic management measures in place - particularly on Oriental Parade and Mt Victoria.
Traffic moving east away from the central city on Oriental Parade and Evans Bay Parade will be restricted to one lane and one direction from 7.00pm -10.00pm so emergency vehicles can access the area quickly if needed.
Evans Bay Parade will be closed to through traffic (residents' access only) at the Cobham Drive intersection from 7.00pm -10.00pm. There will be large numbers of parking wardens on patrol that night. Any illegally or dangerously parked vehicles will be towed.
To control traffic on Mount Victoria, Alexandra Road will be closed at the intersection with Constable Street in Newtown once the maximum safe parking capacity is reached. There will also be parking restrictions around the lookout along Alexandra Road, and a one-way traffic flow will be in place on the roads around the lookout.
If possible, please catch the bus or train or walk into town. Traffic may well come to a complete standstill. Also, for safety reasons, please don't stop anywhere on the highway between Petone and Wellington.
In the event of bad weather, the Sky Show will be held on Sunday 6 November.
