Museum open for business
Waikato Museum is open for business today and this weekend after it was given priority gas supply by Genesis Energy.
Yesterday it appeared the Museum would need to close as a result of disrupted gas supply stemming from the Maui pipeline rupture which has affected much of the North Island.
Museum director Kate Vusoniwailala said there had been concerns about the environmental conditions inside the museum, which if not controlled adequately, could affect some of the exhibits.
However, Genesis Energy identified the importance of the museum and the artefacts it houses, and has ensured gas supply will continue – meaning the temperature and humidity can be controlled, and the museum open to visitors.
“This is a great relief. The museum is an important cultural asset for the city, and tells our stories,” Ms Vusoniwailala said.
