MARLBOROUGH

On 1 July 2012, the councils of Marlborough and Kaikoura Districts, and the Department of Conservation are amalgamating the governance and administration of forest and rural fire in the region under a single Rural Fire District. The new Rural Fire District will be governed by a Board of Directors, representative of the forest and rural fire stakeholders of the Districts. The Transition Board, established to oversee the amalgamation, will become the Marlborough-Kaikoura Rural Fire Authority on that same date.

As the governing body of this not for profit organisation, the Board is responsible for

  • Determining the strategic direction for the Fire Authority and establishing the policy, planning and operational framework within which the Principle Rural Fire Officer (PRFO) must act;
  • Reporting to the Fire Authority’s stakeholders; and
  • Overseeing the PRFOs financial and service delivery performance.

The Transition Board is seeking an Independent Director, to be appointed to the Board for a 5 year term, starting as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will possess knowledge and skills that complements the existing membership’s input, particularly in the areas of governance, financial, and broad business experience.

The time commitment is approximately 5 hours per month consisting of bi-monthly Board meetings and additional subcommittee meetings as determined by the Board.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Director to be involved in the governance of a function that directly impacts the prosperity and wellbeing of this region.
