The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team is less than 10 seconds behind the powerful Calder Stewart-Bike NZ team after the opening prologue at the Powernet Tour of Southland today.

Calder Stewart’s defending champion Hayden Roulston secured the yellow jersey after the opening four kilometre team time trial around Queens Park in Invercargill with a time of four minutes and 38 seconds, four seconds faster than the second placed PowerNet team.

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team, which includes two key members of the New Zealand track endurance team aiming for selection for next year’s Olympics, finished fourth with a time of four minutes and 47 seconds. SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team Manager and physio Paul Holloway said the team rode a very good race today to record a solid result.

“The guys rode really well as a team and it is very early days. They looked good and are really looking forward to the week.”

Tomorrow’s 160 kilometre stage from Invercargill to Lumsden is the first in a number of changes to this year’s course in an effort to refresh the tour.
