Wanted: Garden Hosts with the Most
Have you enjoyed seeing and meeting visitors to the city during the Rugby World Cup? If so, and you love the outdoors, the city and all it has to offer, you should consider becoming a volunteer host at the Wellington Botanic Garden.
Cruise ship season has started and many people from these ships visit the garden. Wellington City Council is looking for friendly enthusiastic hosts to greet them. All that's needed is general knowledge of Wellington, its attractions and a cheerful, welcoming manner.
"You don't need to have an in-depth knowledge of plants or gardening but a little will help," says Botanic Garden Manager David Sole. "We get asked all sorts of questions, from the weather through to sport and where to find the rose garden!"
Hosting commitments are rostered two-and-a-half-hour sessions throughout the cruise ship season - November to April and can be tailored to suit your availability.
Becoming a host is a great way to meet new people and an experience that's guaranteed to be different every time. Mr Sole says the one thing that doesn't change is the obvious pleasure visitors get from the personal contact and all the thank-yous.
