Environment Canterbury has launched a new 40 Middleton Metro service. The new service is in response to the relocation of businesses and people after the earthquake to the Middleton/ Tower Junction/Annex Road business hubs.

Environment Canterbury Commissioner Rex Williams says the Metro public transport team identifed a need for improved public transport to these new commercial centres in Middleton.

“We’re very glad to officially launch the new Metro 40 Middleton service, to provide a convenient connection to people working at Tower Junction, Middleton and Church Corner.“

The 40 Middleton service is an extension of the existing 40 Wainoni and provides a direct service for people living east of the CBD and working between the central city and Church Corner. It is contracted to the existing operator for the Wainoni route, Go Bus Ltd.

The service began late last month, but is officially launched Thursday this week, November 3 at Wright’s Rd’s Milieu Cafe at 3 pm. The service runs every 30 minutes on weekdays and weekends, and every 15 minutes at peak times. The 40 Middleton also connects people to entertainment at the Addington Raceway and Events Centre, the CBS Arena and rugby league grounds.

It has been designed to provide convenient transfers to other Metro services. At Church Corner passengers can transfer to and from the 5 Hornby and Metrostar. At Tower Junction passengers can transfer to the Orbiter, and on Lincoln Road to the 7 Halswell. At Central Station a bigger range of transferring options is available.

“We’re delighted to offer passengers travelling on the 40 Middleton the chance to enter a prize draw for a Christmas work party, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Milieu Café,” says Commissioner Williams. “To enter, all people have to do is travel on the 40 Middleton before November 23, and pay using their Metrocard.”
