Council heads out into the community
Hamilton City Council will hold its November Ordinary Meeting at the Western Community Centre, just the second time Council has met outside the Council Chamber.
The move to have meetings in venues other than the Council Chamber is a new initiative, said Democratic Services Manager Anthony Dick.
Council has held an Ordinary Meeting outside the Council Chamber on only one previous occasion, when a fired seriously damaged the Chamber in the 1980s.
Mayor Julie Hardaker said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the public to come along and see how Council works and makes its decisions. I am pleased Councillors took up the idea and it’s another initiative that is part of a more open and transparent local government in our city.”
The shift to the Community Centre means the Ordinary Meeting will not be broadcast on the internet.
The meeting, on November 24, will begin at 9.30am. The Western Community Centre is 46 Hyde Ave, next to Elliott Park.
