Stay safe this Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes is almost upon us so we spoke to Council’s principal rural fire officer Paul Nickalls to get some tips for staying safe.

• Read and follow the instructions on fireworks before using them.

• Light in a wide open area away from anything that could catch fire.

• Keep animals indoors.

• Never point fireworks at people.

• Fireworks and alcohol/drugs are a dangerous combination.

• Always let an adult light the fireworks.

• Keep a bucket of water or a hose handy.

• Keep all unlit fireworks in their box or bag until you light them.

• Fireworks are noisy – consider your neighbours.
