WELLINGTON CITY

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid attempting to drive through central Johnsonville this afternoon and evening following a water main burst at the busy intersection of Johnsonville and Broderick roads.

Wellington City Council contractors are already working at the scene to repair the break - but there will be severe traffic disruption due to the fact that Johnsonville Road has been reduced to one lane northbound.

Traffic is unable to turn into Broderick Road. The disruption is causing traffic to tail back to the Johnsonville offramp on the Ngauranga Gorge. Motorists should expect long delays.

The main is not expected to be fixed until later this evening.

Alternative Routes

Motorists are advised to use the Newlands or Churton Park interchanges off State Highway 1 - or access Johnsonville via the Ngaio Gorge and Khandallah.
