M2 Telecommunications, the parent company of New Zealand-based telco Black + White, appointed a new chief executive today.

Geoff Horth replaces the company founder and CEO of the past 11 years, Vaughan Bowen who will instead be focussing on the company’s mergers, acquisitions and carrier relations.
Black + White CEO and Managing Director Mr Johnathan Eele said it will be “more of same” under the leadership change.

“The changeover is being called Project Evolution which highlights that its an evolution rather than a revolution,” he said.

“Black + White will be working closely with Mr Horth on a number of exciting new developments and changes we have the pipeline in New Zealand in the next 12 months. These will benefit existing Black + White customers and hopefully attract more small to medium sized businesses to come across to our network,” he said.

“Being an integral part of the M2 Telecommunications brand ensures reliability and stability for our customers,” Mr Eele said.

M2 Telecommunicatons acquired the Black + White about 12 months ago when it took over customer contracts, operating systems and intellectual property.

Mr Eele went on to say that: “in addition we have launched M2 Wholesale in NZ which has been a highly successful division of the business in Australia. In New Zealand we offer mobile, fixed line and data services. We have a number of small service providers purchasing service from us now with some exciting high profile announcements due in the coming weeks.”

Horth has been working closely with Bowen for the past few months to ensure a smooth transition.

Under Horth’s leadership M2 Telecommunications will continue on its present growth path which includes looking for new M & A targets, utilising its greater scale from recent acqusitions for business efficiency and positiioning the company for the NBN and UFB in Australia.

The past two years has seen M2 make a string of acquisitions that have given it a far greater scale, particularly in the SMB space. It also resulted in the company announcing a record net profit after tax of AUS$27.6 million for the financial year 2011, up 72 per cent on the previous year.
