Snow Sports New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Toomey as its new Chief Executive.

Toomey is a former All Black and Team New Zealand Fitness Trainer, and SPARC General Manager High Performance, and is currently Acting Chief Executive of High Performance Sport New Zealand.

Snow Sports NZ Chair Tony Hannon says they conducted a wide search for the right person to lead the organisation through what’s set to be an exciting time, and the board is thrilled with both thecaliber of applicants and the opportunity to appoint Toomey to the role.

“Over the last year we’ve been working hard on a strategy to take snow sports to a whole new level. We have big plans, including getting the sport on to a better commercial footing and the eventual development of a Winter National Training Centre.

“Our sport has tremendous potential with our incredible winter environment and some amazingyoung talent, and we need the right person at the helm to ensure we make the most of thisopportunity in a unified way. We believe we’ve found that person, and we will support him as weextend our strategy and plan.”

Toomey says he developed a love of skiing and the outdoors during his university days and is lookingforward to being closely involved with snow sports again.

“This opportunity has come along at a perfect time for me. After 10 years shaping and driving New Zealand’s high performance system I was looking for a new challenge, and this role provided a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead a forward-thinking organisation during what’s set to be a reallyexciting period of growth .

“I have spent a lot of time in Central Otago over the years and it’s always been a special place to me and my family. This role represented the right opportunity at the right time.”

Toomey will take up the role in early February once his role of Acting Chief Executive for HPSNZ has come to an end. He will be based in Wanaka and will relocate his family during the Christmas break.
