Swimming pools get cash boost from community board
Public swimming pools in the South Hokianga should remain open this summer, thanks to the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board.
The board voted at its monthly meeting in Pawarenga on October 12 to give Rawene and Districts Community Development Inc (RAD) $4000 towards costs of operating pools at Rawene and Opononi Schools.
The group will use the money to train people as life guards, swimming teachers and water treatment technicians.
“We need to comply with health and safety standards and individuals must receive training to ensure our pools can remain open,” RAD said in its grant application to the board.
Board members also voted to give Go Kaikohe Promotions $1892 to paint murals in Marino Court and Library Square, Kaikohe, subject to the board chairman and deputy chairman approving the design.
The board voted to recall a grant made to Kaikohe Promotions about six years ago, because murals planned for the Dress Circle reserve on Broadway had not been completed within a reasonable timeframe.
Kaikohe Rotary received $400 from the board towards costs of hosting the first competitive run/walk on the Okaihau-Kaikohe section of the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail on October 23.
