International Living Roofs expert Dusty Gedge will present a free public seminar in Christchurch this Wednesday (16 November 2011) on how living roofs are a critical element to achieving environmentally sustainable design.

Mr Gedge, who is the president of the European Federation of Green Roofs Association and renowned internationally for his passion for biodiversity, will explain the wide ranging benefits of living roofs, one of the key concepts being promoted by the Christchurch City Council in the draft Central City Plan for the redevelopment and rebuild of the Central City.

Mr Gedge will talk about the living roof design stage, from biodiversity, reduced building energy requirements, stormwater attenuation and increased net rentable area to helping mitigate the effects of climate changes.

The seminar is an opportunity for homeowners, landscape architects, developers, urban designers, planners, property managers and architects to gather information and ideas on living roofs, have their queries answered and to network.

The seminar will be at the Trust Bank Lounge, Canterbury Netball Function Centre, Hagley Park, from 5pm to 6pm on Wednesday, 16 November. It is a free public event hosted by the Council and Living Roofs New Zealand.
