John Key needs to front up about why he is so determined to resuscitate the ACT Party which is in terminal decline, says Labour Campaign spokesperson Grant Robertson.

“John Key should end the sideshow now,” Grant Robertson said.

“He should tell us what he talked about, and cut ACT adrift. But he won’t because he can’t. He will need ACT’s support to sell our state assets.

“So instead, we will have another day of the ridiculous situation where John Key refuses to tell New Zealanders what was said at a meeting he invited the media to attend.

His attempts to distract and deflect from the real issue of what he and John Banks talked about will fail.

“This is no longer about the taping of the conversation; it is about what John Key is up to with the ACT Party,” Grant Robertson said.

“This morning when John Key was asked whether he would have Don Brash in his Cabinet, he didn’t answer. He was also asked whether ACT should be restructured. He didn’t answer.

“John Key has to front up and explain his involvement in the workings of the ACT party,” Grant Robertson said.
