Shanks all class at Lion Foundation Club Road Nationals

AUCKLAND

Cycling Otago’s Alison Shanks was the convincing winner of the Senior Women’s Time Trial at the Lion Foundation Club Road Nationals in Karaka today.

Recently back from a month’s altitude training in Boulder, Colarado Shanks was commanding on the 25Km course held in changeable conditions. The road race on Saturday will be Shanks last ride on the road before she switches her focus to the track. Recently named in the NZ team for the Oceania Championships in November, Shanks is aiming to pick up qualification points for Beijing where her goal is to ride in the 3000m Individual pursuit.



3rd seed, Paul Odlin from the Pegasus Club in Christchurch won the Senior Men’s Time Trial capping off a great day for the club with 4 title winners and numerous place getters.



In the Mens Under 23 race, there was no stopping world Junior Track Silver Medalist, Shem Rodger. Rodger, Te Awamutu, won in a time over 2 minutes faster than the senior mens time.



Emma Peterson also from Te Awamutu proved that she is a young rider to watch. Peterson picked up the gold in the Under 19 Girls Time Trial one month after winning 2 national titles at the NZ Secondary Schools Championships and 2 silvers at last years Club Road Championships.



Tomorrow is the first of three days of Road Race competition.

Competitors will ride a challenging 26Kmloop, with number of laps dependant on their grade.
