Flaxmere will honour some of its heroes, with the launch of the 2012 calendar at Te Aranga Marae this month.

The U-TURN Trust has identified a number of individuals and groups who have made great contributions to the Flaxmere community and has included a photo and a small story on each of them in the ‘Flaxmere Heroes 2012 Calendar’.

Flaxmere Councillor Henare O’Keefe says” It’s important that those who are representing the community in a positive way are recognised. Hanging the calendar in a prominent place in your home or business premises, will help reinforce the great work that these people are doing in the Flaxmere community.”

This year, the calendar features a community directory, which includes a list of agencies, services and businesses which are easily accessible to the people of Flaxmere. The directory is expected to raise public awareness of groups and businesses working in the community and 3000 calendars will be distributed throughout the Flaxmere community.

Henare O’Keefe says “The special function will recognize each of the groups and individuals who feature in the calendar and it will also be a wonderful chance for guests to have a look over the community garden. The garden on the Marae has been extremely successful in providing fresh produce for a large number of people in the community.”

“Hastings District Council is working with the community on the development of a number of initiatives which will ensure a positive and vibrant future for Flaxmere. The proposed redevelopment of Flaxmere Park will ensure that area will become an integral part of family life.”

The calendar is supported by the Hastings District Council, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Te Puni Kōkiri, Totara Health and the U-Turn Trust.

The official launch of the calendar will be held at Te Aranga Marae on Monday November 28th at 5.30pm.
