The Flying Moa is encouraging locals to embody the true spirit of Christmas by donating tinned food for charity with the incentive of a refreshing reward.

The Mt Wellington restaurant and bar is calling on tinned donations to be dropped off at its Lunn Avenue location on Thursday 15th December from 5pm. Everyone that brings in a can will receive a complimentary glass of Monteith’s tap beer or cider. The team at The Flying Moa will then deliver the donated goods to the Tamaki Centre Salvation Army Food Bank.

Operator of The Flying Moa, Lance Campbell, says the Salvation Army does a tremendous job for the local community, particularly those in need.

“Christmas can be a really stressful time for some families,” he says, “but perhaps more so this year because of the challenging economic environment. Food is a basic stable but the reality is some families are really struggling to buy the basics and put a meal on the table. Everyone deserves to have a happy Christmas and hopefully our event on Thursday 15th December will go some way to achieving this.”
